The training has been rather rough. Back in December, we had snow, which wasn't a problem. What came after it (what we usually get around here) was the ice. I was able to run a few times but not much . The Sunday after Christmas, when the snow finally melted, was the first time I was able to get out since the 15th of Decmeber. The kids couldn't understand my negative reaction everytime I heard the four letter word in the forecast. I used to love the snow. I enjoy it, when I don't have to walk or drive in it. Now, I'm prepared for the next time the white stuff falls from the sky. We have traction for our shoes. So Mother Nature bring it on.
Before all the snow, I was having some pain issues with my left hip. Didn't stop me from training, just made it uncomfortable. Then the pain migrated to the knee. I thought, "oh great." The pain came and went, and most times I was able to run through it. But on Friday (the 16th), when I tried to run 8 miles, the pain became rather disruptive. I was cruising along til about mile 3.5, the knee let me know it was there. After 4 miles, I had to stop and walk a bit. It was pretty much that pattern the rest of the way back. When I described the pain and location of it to a friend she said it sounded like the IT band. Did some research, and with the information I addressed the issue. I also made an appointment with my physical therapist. Now that I know what it is, I'm nipping it in the bud.
The Fort Steilacoom Running Club puts on an annual event called the Resolution Run Series. It starts on New Year's Day with a 5K/5 mile run, you choose the distance. The next run is a 10K/10 miler. The series ends with a 20K/20M. If one choose to do all four events, then one is required to stay in that pattern (kilo/miles). It is allowed to do the events individually also, with this option you can switch back and forth. I was going to run the whole series of runs this year but a bad cold prevented me from doing the first event. The next one is the 10K/10M on the 24th of this month. I'm planning to run it. I'm undecided as to which distance I should do. With my training schedule, I should be running 9 miles about that time. So, I just might not make that decision til the day of the event. I'll keep you posted.
All in all though, life is good. Husband is working (I'm not), kids are healthy, no particular crisis going on, at least not life threatening. Going to school part time, that's going well so far. Was planning to get a certificate in some sort of office training (bookkeeping, medical something) at Pierce. About 20+ years ago, I earned 74 credits at Pierce. It was suggested that I consider trying to finish the program and get an Associates instead. So, I'm looking into that. Again, I'll keep you posted.
That's all from my end. Hope all of you are well and that 2009 is good for you.
