Sore gluts

Not sure if it was the 5 1/2 mile run Saturday or the 30 minutes on the stairclimber the day before, but boy do my glutes hurt. I'm hoping that's a good thing, as in they're gettiing stronger.

Achieved a minor accomplishment

School work has pretty much consumed my attention lately. In other words, I haven't run a lot this past week. Tuesday I put in 4 miles. Felt okay really. Ran intervals of 1/2 mile with 30 sec walk break between the intervals of running. After I got past the steep hills in the beginning I was actually able to run the half mile intervals with only 1 maybe 2 very short stops.

Wednesday, I was short on time so I went to the gym. Did about 20 minutes of strength exercises then jumped on the treadmill. Normally, I hate the treadmill, but at Vision Quest there are screens attached to the machine. So if you have a set of earphones, you plug them into the tv control and start running. I ran 2.25 miles with only 3 short stops and that was just to wipe the sweat off. I was only going 4.5 mph. Due to the tiredness though it didn't feel that slow. For that day, it was good. I was able to get a short run in complete it with only 3 TOTAL stops. I was tired but able to push through the tiredness. (Feels good to say that).

Today, I decided to cross train on a funky machine that's in the family of eliptical machines - not really sure. Felt good though. I could feel it working the thighs and hamstrings along with the calves.

Tomorrow, I hope to do the 5.4 mile club run. It's suppose to rain. Ugh.

Behind in Blogging Training Runs

Okay, I'm not big on "routine" blogging. Never have been one for keeping journals. The only one I've actually been able to keep up is my regular running log on my iPhone. Even that I forget some days. Besides, I've been a bit more focused on school work than blogging my training.

Okay, so I've been running with my white lab named Bear. Even though he's usually just trotting it's somewhat of a fast pace for me. I'm usually going at a sub-10 min/mile pace. Tuesday, I ran alone around 2 in the afternoon. It was my hill run. Although I had a lot of walk breaks, I tried not to take more than 1 during the half mile intervals. That was tough with the steep hills at the beginning of the run. And for the past few weeks, I've been struggling (big time) with getting past a quarter mile before dying. But Tuesday, I did feel a little stronger, that was encouraging. Yesterday, I did a very short strength exercise workout then jumped on the treadmill. Feeling a bit tired, I wasn't expecting much. Turned it on, selected the "X-Country" program and set the speed to 4.5 mph. (Indication I was tired: that felt fast). I set the time for 30 (It was late and I was pressed for time.) While running, I watched Cash Cab. By the time Cash Cab was over, I had done 2.2 miles with only 3 stops (and those were to reach for a paper towel on the post next to my machine.) I had just finished 2 miles with only 3 very short stops. Last night, as I drifted off to sleep, I felt like I had worked hard but was not sore. Felt good, physically and morale-wise. This is propelling me into wanting to run not feeling like I have to run. It no longer feels like a chore.

2nd Week of training

Okay yesterday was a good run. I was .1 of a mile short of 3 miles. Ran early in the morning with Bear. So needless to say, it was a "quick" run. Today, I tried to go for a run around 2:30pm. Just couldn't do it. Didn't even get a quarter of a mile down the road when I decided to turn around and head back to the gym. Wasn't going to happen today. At least I got a strength training workout in. Amoung many weight lifting exercises I was pleased with the fact I was able to do 2 sets of 10 push ups and 2 sets of 20 crunches on the stability ball. Tomorrow is another "Bear" run. Hopefully that'll go better than today. Today's attempt was rather discouraging. I changed my diet (somewhat), eating more fruits, veggies & less junk, drinking more water. So don't know what caused the problem today.

Day 13 of Training

Okay, haven't been keeping up on the logging of my training. That's going to change.

So, last Sunday hubby and I joined a fitness club. Now I can get the strength training I want and need.

Today, ran with the running club. I only did 3.25 miles. Was an okay run. Actually felt kind of weak. Didn't get a lot of running in this last week. Thought the strength exercises would've made up for that. Discovered the hard way, that it did't matter. Oh well. I'll be back on the road again Monday. Also, the "Plan" starts next week so I definately will be out there logging the miles.
